Position Purpose

Meet with mandated and self-referred students who have violated UCM alcohol or drug policy, as well as individuals who are voluntarily participating in motivational interview services. Develop competency in motivational interviewing, including building rapport, identifying clients’ readiness to change, client goals, and client strengths.
Gain understanding of brief interventions used in the VSAP office including the Echeckup to Go, Marijuana 101, and BASICS. Learn the Sanction process for UCM and update student cases on Maxient.
Manage data and record keeping to maintain grant funded programs and to track client appointments/payments. Other assignments will be assigned based on employee’s strengths. Other tasks could include attending Green Dot Bystander Intervention training, giving Green Dot overviews, presenting to classrooms or student groups, special projects, writing text for website, etc.

Must have completed coursework in psychology, counseling, substance abuse, social work, health, or related interpersonal communication skills.
A minimum GPA of 3.0.
Must be able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
Must have excellent oral communication skills.
Able to demonstrate high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
