Position Purpose

The Department of Biology and Agriculture at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) seeks a developmental biologist for a 9-month, tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will complement existing departmental strengths by teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as developing a collaborative research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will have access to a new renovated molecular/cellular research laboratory, an animal holding facility, and a greenhouse. The development of an externally funded research program is expected. Primary teaching responsibilities include embryology, histology, and comparative anatomy, and may include immunology, endocrinology, and basic microbiology. There is also an expectation of teaching and/or developing courses at all levels, especially upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses.

An earned doctorate degree with 18 hours of graduate credit in the biological sciences or a related area from an accredited institution; ABD will be considered but the PhD degree must be completed by May 2018.

2. Experience in developmental biology research with evidence of recent scholarly activity.
3. Demonstrated effective communication, facilitative, and organizational skills.

3. Evidence of collaboration in teaching and/or research.
4. Record of extramural funding.
5. Postdoctoral experience.
6. Evidence of working effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds.

8. Experience with using instructional technology in the learning process.
9. Evidence of effective teaching.
