Position Purpose

This position is within the Department of Communication and is a part of the Digital Media Production program. The position serves two functions, that of a faculty member and reassigned time for managing the campus newspaper. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses in digital media, mass communication, and journalism. Additionally, the position requires the successful candidates to act as advisor and mentor to the student-managed campus newspaper, the “Muleskinner” and the online version, the “DigitalBurg.” The position involves managing students with the Muleskinner and DigitalBurg in addition to regular student advising and classroom/faculty activities.

Master’s degree in Mass Communication or Journalism required.

A terminal degree in the field of journalism (or one very closely related to journalism) is preferred, however ABD will be considered.

Experience

Actual field experience with news publication, whether student or commercial, is a plus.

Specific skills and knowledge in both print and digital journalism are essential. Examples include but are not limited to copy editing, media sales and marketing, reporting, layout and design, photo journalism, web media publications, etc.
