Position Purpose

A subject specific peer tutor for Tutoring Services is a qualified undergraduate who provides academic support and clarification of subjects in the tutor’s area of expertise. Tutors normally work 4 to 20 hours per week.

-Provide academic support in a specific area
-Present the fundamental methods and study techniques
-Attend mandatory tutor training sessions
-Practice all policies and procedures listed in the Student Employee Handbook
-Be commited to tutoring for the entire semester of employment
-Assist with university wide workshops and presentations

Education & Formal Training High school diploma or equivalent
Computer Skills Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation
Experience

*Tutors must have attained an overall 3.0 CUM GPA or better. Applicants’ transcripts are checked.
Must have demonstrated outstanding academic performance in the subject area(s) qualified to tutor and have a B average or better in the courses to be tutored. Applicants’ transcripts are checked.
*Applicants are expected to provide one letter of recommendation from a UCM faculty member in the discipline he/she would like to tutor. If there are more than one disciplines the applicant would like to tutor, he/she should provide a letter for each. (Letters can be emailed to courtwright@ucmo.edu)
Possess the ability to work with students in a one-on-one setting as well as in small groups
Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate credits.
