Position Purpose

The University of Central Missouri Department of Biology and Agriculture is seeking applicants for two tenure-track positions as Assistant Professor of Biology -Human Physiology and Animal Physiology.

One position will focus on human/mammalian physiology and the other animal/comparative physiology with all applications being considered for both positions. Course responsibilities for the two positions combined may include but are not limited to, human physiology, animal physiology, environmental physiology, human biology, reproductive biology, immunology, endocrinology, neurophysiology, basic microbiology (without lab), freshman-level courses and upper division/graduate courses in the candidates’ areas of expertise. The successful candidates will complement each other and existing departmental strengths. The candidate will have access to Pertle Springs Wildlife and Recreation Area, a newly renovated molecular laboratory facility, and animal holding facility, two greenhouses, two farms, and wildlife research lab. The development of an externally funded, collaborative research program involving undergraduate and graduate students is expected. The candidate will also be expected to help advise biology students, supervise internships, serve on university/college/department committees, mentor student organizations, participate in recruitment and retention activities, assist in program assessment activities and contribute to curriculum revision as needed.

A PhD degree in Biology, Physiology, or a related area from an accredited institution; ABD will be considered but the PhD degree must be completed by May 15, 2018.

The successful candidate should possess the following credentials, experience, and documented achievements appropriate for appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor:

Required Qualifications:
1. Evidence of recent scholarly activity involving physiology research.
2. Demonstration of clear written communication skills, oral communication skills, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. University/College teaching experience.
2. Record of peer-reviewed publication.
3. Evidence of involvement in extramural funded research.
4. Evidence of assessment knowledge and experience using technology in the classroom.
5. Interest in advising student organizations.
6. Postdoctoral experience.
