Position Purpose

The University of Central Missouri’s Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor with a specialty in teaching acting, directing, stage voice, stage movement, and advanced acting classes; other courses based on special skills or interests, considered. The candidate will direct in the main stage program, mentor students in auditioning for academic and professional organizations, contribute to the advancement and growth of the Performance and Musical Theatre BFA programs, assist in student recruitment, advise in the selection of the production season, and academically mentor students. Additional duties include working in collaboration with theatre and dance faculty, and service on department, college and university committees.

UCM Theatre and Dance has about 115 majors between its BA, BFA and BSE degree programs. There is also a dance minor and a theatre minor. It is a NAST accredited program with strong regional, national and international presence through the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. The 440-seat proscenium James L. Highlander Theatre and the Nickerson Black Box Theatre are regionally recognized venues, housing the UCM Main Stage, Studio Theatre One Act, and Black Box Theatre programs.

Evidence of professional acting, and a minimum of three years academic teaching experience.

Ideal candidates will possess a strong record of teaching from a variety of acting and voice pedagogies. Candidates must demonstrate and sustain a strong scholarly and creative research focus in order to achieve tenure.
