Position Purpose

TRIO Tutor Job Duties
Assist TRIO participants in assigned college subjects and/or courses. Duties may include some or all of the listed tasks (to be assigned by the Coordinator):
tutor individually and/or in small groups
review/explain course and subject concepts
assist student with completion of course assignments
provide information about specific courses/instructors from personal experience
model appropriate scholarly behaviors and attitudes
teach and demonstrate study skills, applying them to tutored subjects
mentor high-risk students to promote academic success and retention in the TRIO program and at UCM
facilitate and lead study groups
assist in advertising/promoting tutoring services to TRIO-eligible students
assist students in TRIO lab with non-academic concerns
attend meetings and trainings
other duties as assigned by the Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications
Overall GPA: 3.0
Ability to communicate effectively with students of various backgrounds and abilities
Interview by TRIO-SSS Director and Retention Specialist

Preferred Qualifications
Course Grade (for courses tutored): earned an A at UCM in the course
Course Hours (for subject tutored): 9 credit hours at UCM in subject area with 3.5 Major GPA

TRIO-SSS tutors are model students who can guide learners toward understanding through questioning and direction. Tutors should possess appropriate attitudes toward and ability to work with students who have a learning disability, a physical disability, or other characteristics that may impact or complicate learning. In addition, by sharing their familiarity with UCM courses and knowledge about UCM instructors, our tutors equip TRIO students with the capacity to conquer difficult material, become confident scholars, and satisfactorily complete courses.

Education & Formal Training High school diploma or equivalent
Computer Skills Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Class Management Software

Demonstrated competency in course content required for tutoring

Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, & State/Federal Requirements of Position: Not Applicable
